Celebrating the Farms and Brands That Remain Independent
This July, independence means more than fireworks and long weekends. It’s also about the small, independently-owned organic farms and brands working to stay that way, and Turnip Truck is proud to spend the month celebrating them alongside The Cornucopia Institute.
Why This Matters
As the organic market has grown, so has buy-outs and consolidation. Large corporations are acquiring the independent organic brands that built the category in the we cherish deeply. The Cornucopia Institute is a nonprofit watchdog organization that researches and reports on the organic industry, working to protect the integrity of the organic label and to keep independently-owned farms and brands from being pushed out. Their “Independence Matters” campaign, held every July, puts a spotlight on exactly that fight.
The Role We Play
We’ve built our shelves around the same idea since day one. As a locally-owned, all-natural market with relationships across 80+ local vendors, supporting independent producers isn’t a campaign for us, it’s how we’ve always done business. It’s our mission. This July, we’re making that commitment a little more visible.
